ISC Student Cluster Competition 2021, co-organized by the HPC-AI Advisory Council and ISC Group, will take place during the ISC High Performance Conference, virtually on June, 2021.
This year, the National Supercomputing Center (NSCC) Singapore and University of Toronto has graciously provided us an access to their leading supercomputers to use during the competition, which we will utilize via an online remote access.
The supercomputers the teams will use are:
Aspire 1 Supercomputer at the National Supercomputing Centre Singapore: GPU nodes: 6 DGXs (with 8 V100s, 16GB per DGX) with InfiniBand EDR networking. CPU nodes: 1,288 nodes (Intel Haswell E5-2690v3, 2.6GHz), InfiniBand EDR networking.
Niagara supercomputer at University of Toronto: CPU nodes: 2000 nodes, (Intel Skylake Xeon 6148, 2.4GHz), InfiniBand EDR networking.
The competition will include applications that address education and applied learning towards accelerating bioscience research and discovery. The student teams will be tasked to test several applications that are being used by scientists and researchers.
The ISC Student Cluster Competition encourages international teams of university students to showcase their expertise in a friendly yet spirited competition that fosters critical skills, professional relationships, competitive spirit and lifelong comraderies.

Here is a short summary from ISC20 SCC event:
The ISC SCC is an integral part of ISC 2021, Its ongoing success and growing recognition as a world championship competition are a result of the collaborative partnership between ISC and the HPC-AI Advisory Council. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, On Nov 5th 2020, both parties cancelled the ISC 2021 SCC onsite competition while transfering it to a virtual competition.
Over these intense competition days, the teams demonstrate incredible capabilities to obtaining the greatest performance across a series of benchmarks and applications. In parallel to their day-to-day learnings, the students’ novel approaches and unique perspectives gained during the competition are integral to our own education – teaching us how HPC influences our world.
