Running ANSYS Fluent on Windows with InfiniBand

Postby shainer on Fri Aug 14, 2009 10:43 pm

When using Windows HPC 2008 and InfiniBand, some people have reported seeing not great of performance numbers and higher latency vs what is expected with InfiniBand.

The reason for those issues were that the Fluent run was actually not using the InfiniBand infrastructure, but the Ethernet one (dual networks). The way to make sure InfiniBand is being used is by making sure that ndinstall -i has been run on all nodes. This ensures that the Network Direct interface is being used, and in all cases, this solves the performance and latency issues.

For benchmarks info, you can check the best practices page on the HPC Advisory Council web, and you can also find some on ANSYS web site
